Automate a Restaurant Crops: How Growing Works

Learn how crops work in the Roblox game Automate a Restaurant — real-time growth by tier, the plant-to-harvest loop, and which crops to prioritize early.

Crops Are the Start of Every Dish

In Automate a Restaurant, crops are the raw material for everything you cook and serve. You buy seed packets, plant them, wait for them to finish, and harvest the produce into your storage so it can be turned into dishes. Understanding how growing works is the first step toward a restaurant that runs itself.

How Growing Works

Crops in Automate a Restaurant grow in real time. Once you plant a seed on a prepared soil tile, a growth indicator fills up, and the crop is only ready to harvest when that indicator completes.

  • Timers vary by crop tier. Different crops finish at different speeds. Some are short-cycle plants, others are long-cycle plants that take considerably longer.
  • Short vs. long cycles. Short-cycle crops teach you the rhythm of the loop and give you fast, frequent income. Longer crops reward planning across a play session.
  • Offline growth is limited. Some passive growth may continue while you are away, but the major unlocks and steady income still need active play — you can't leave and expect a finished restaurant.

The Plant-to-Harvest Loop

The basic cycle for any crop looks like this:

  1. Buy a seed packet from the shop UI.
  2. Equip the seed from your inventory or the shop.
  3. Plant it on a tilled or marked soil tile (press E on PC or tap on mobile).
  4. Wait for the growth indicator to fill.
  5. Harvest the produce into a bag or crate.

From there the produce feeds into the wider loop: release it into storage, cook it into a dish, plate it for customers, and collect your money after service.

Which Crops to Grow First

The game does not force you to gamble on which crop to plant. A reliable early approach is:

  1. Start with the tutorial crops. They come with guaranteed objectives and your first income, so they carry you through the opening hours.
  2. Keep one backup crop growing. This keeps your fields busy while your primary crop is still maturing, so no plot sits empty.
  3. Only experiment later. Once you can reliably cook or sell one dish, you can start planting experiment pairs to discover new recipes.

A Note on Specific Crop Names

Automate a Restaurant is an experiment-driven game, and the in-game crop roster changes with updates. Because of that, this page focuses on how crops behave rather than publishing a list of specific crop names and stats that would quickly go out of date. When you open the shop in-game, the current crops, their costs, and their tiers are all shown directly — that live menu is always the most accurate source. Ignore "crop lists" copied from other Roblox restaurant games; those belong to different titles and do not match this one.
